Four generations of craftsmanship and entrepreneurship
1st generation: Pôls Govers
The first pig trader in the family is Paulus Govers, born in Oss on November 23, 1876. His given name is Paul or Pôls. In 1903, at the age of 27, he starts trading pigs alongside his farming business.
2nd generation: Piet Govers
Piet Govers, son of pig trader Pôls Govers from Oss, laid the foundation for what is now VAEX in 1951. From Reek, he built his pig trading business, first by bicycle and later with his own truck. His entrepreneurial spirit took him far beyond the region. After his early passing, his children, led by Annie, Toon, and Leo, continued his life's work.
3rd generation: Toon and Leo Govers
Together they explored and conquered Europe. The first export of slaughter pigs took place in 1974 to Germany. Many countries followed.
4th generation: Dirk and Pim Govers
The sons of Leo and Toon take over the company. The pig trade was expanded and various other business branches were added.
Trade in breeding cattle
The trade branch in breeding cattle found its origin. In a short time, from pioneer to an important player in Europe and even beyond.
VAEX splits up
Dirk will continue to focus on pig and livestock trading. Pim will fully focus on the truck trade.
Transport
VAEX decides to outsource the transport of pigs and piglets. Full focus on trade.
Piglet slaughterhouse Pigarné
Expansion of activities, VAEX becomes the owner of a piglet slaughterhouse in Lichtenvoorde.
Pigarné – Young Pork Meat slaughters the remaining piglets in the Netherlands and sells the piglet carcasses and parts all over the world.
