Seasonal pattern in piglet prices: trends from 2019 to 2025

Piglet prices follow a recognizable seasonal pattern each year, with the market fluctuating based on supply and demand. An analysis of the Dutch piglet quotation from 2019 to 2024 shows clear trends.

In the spring (March-May), prices often rise significantly. This is likely due to increased demand for piglets in the run-up to summer, when pork becomes more popular, partly because of the barbecue season.

This is followed by a downward trend in summer and early autumn (July-September). This may be related to a temporary drop in demand or an increase in the supply of piglets from previous breeding cycles.

In the autumn and winter (October-December), we see more fluctuations. External factors, such as feed costs, weather conditions, and market demand, play a bigger role here. Some years show a slight price increase in winter, but this is not consistent.

These recurring trends provide insight into market movements and offer traders guidance in a dynamic sector.
